Activities
CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGNS.
There is a campaign called "Clean-Up The World" which is held every year in the third week of September. During "Clean Up The World" week, schools, government and council workers, individuals, community groups and the business fraternity participate in cleaning up their community.
A clean up is when volunteers work together in their community to clean up the environment. Clean ups are held in public areas such as beaches, water ways, parks, markets, road sides and schools.
ETK has been in the forefront in spearheading clean-up campaigns in the Coast Province. In 1997, ETK organized the first ever clean-up exercise in Mombasa City dubbed "Clean up Mombasa". Since then, "clean-up Mombasa" has become an annual event in ETK's Calendar of activities with the clean-up spirit is taking a deep root in the Coast Province. This is demonstrated by the numerous mini clean up exercises organized by the various individuals and groups
RAISING AWARENESS
Awareness creation occupies a central role in ETK's activities. Some of man's actions that pose a treat to the environment can be attributed to lack of awareness. In this connection the Trust uses the following strategies to raise awareness in environmental issues:
- Production and distribution of reports.
- Production of quarterly publications - newsletters, education packets, posters and banners.
- Public presentations / dialogues.
- Outreach campaign - works closely with media houses to communicate to the public.
- Encourages the public to visit and make use of its resource centre.
- Highlights and participates in International celebrations like
- World Water Day
- Earth Day
- World Environment Day
- World Marine Day
- World Clean-Up Week
