Far from being futuristic weapons in science fiction movies, stun guns have turned into one of the most efficient, usable and extremely trustworthy tool in the crime fighting or crime deterring arsenal.

The general public, when they hear the words “stun gun“, have an image of science fiction weapons in old movies and television series. In contrast to that belief, stun guns have turned into one of the most efficient, usable and extremely trustworthy tool in the crime fighting or crime deterring arsenal.

As time goes on, their use gains greater acceptance as a non-lethal self defense weapon for the ordinary civilian and a particularly strong weapon for law enforcement officials. Stun guns temporarily incapacitate targets by sending a high voltage but low amperage charge of electricity to the intended target’s nervous system. This causes an interruption in the body’s neurological impulses that control muscle movement, overpowering the neuromuscular system causing the victim to lose balance. It also causes temporary partial paralysis and exhausts blood sugar making the person too tired to move. In addition, the current from the stun gun can’t pass to your body from the opponent.

Civilians who use stun guns are those who are extra vulnerable to theft, attack, rape, murder and kidnapping such as teachers, women who work late hours and those who place themselves in harm’s way can protect themselves with stun guns with great efficacy. They’re small, easily concealable or camouflaged and straightforward to use. The sight and sound of a stun gun’s charge could be enough to deter an attacker. If not, then a 3-5 2nd dose of 700,000 volts will be adequate for most of the people to flee the situation they’re in.

A stun gun is a tool in the struggle against crime; it is non-lethal and at best will give the user 2-3 minutes to flee away from the attacker. Brands like Stun Master stun gun, Scorpion, Panther, Firefly, Z force stun gun and Claw stun gun have models that range between eighty thousand volts to 975,000 volts. Stun guns can be camouflaged as cell telephones, flashlights, or pagers for the element of surprise. Stun guns have fast become a popular self defense weapon of choice for many folks in today’s urban jungle.

“Take Back the Night” events across the nation in are a gloomy reminder of just how crucial an issues violence against women has become in American society.

From domestic violence to date rape, from attacks in a car park to rapes on University campuses around the country, it is becoming obvious women are at risk of becoming victims of predators wherever they are. Recent figures indicate that every 2 and a-half minutes, someone in the States is sexually attacked. While these numbers show a frightening increase in the incidence of violence against women, what is more disturbing is that 39 % of rapes in 2002 went unreported reportedly due to humiliation, fear, or shock.

“Take Back the Night” events are well meaning, feel good events that typically occur on college campuses where an extraordinarily big number of sexual attacks happen. The focus of these events is to increase perception of the problem. I believe that although knowing about the problem is the first step, there have to be other follow up steps to make sure that potential victims are able to protect themselves from either physical or sexual attack.

According to Bureau of Justice statistical data seventeen percent of women can expect to be raped in their lifetime. In 2004 for each thousand persons, there was one rape or sexual attack, 2 attacks with injury and two robberies-that’s a one in 5 possibility that you’re going to be next. This is because when an attack happens most victims are caught off guard, panic and do not think clearly.

Attacks can be thwarted with a little common sense and practice. As a practical matter you practice for the many things, from studying, playing an instrument, sports, walk through for a marriage, to memorizing the alphabet, why shouldn’t you practice some survival techniques that might save your life?

Form chat groups with buddies or family members on some basic survival systems and plans of action and over a brief period of time practice these skills to develop good reflex reactions. So that rather than reacting with pure total fear when faced with a real critical situation, survival instincts kick in.

Here are some concepts to kick around with your mates at a “practice” session.

When challenged by a potential assailant or rapist: Scream as loud as you can or if you’ve got a whistle use it, attempt to attract as much attention as you can. The noise will eventually attract somebody and deter the assailant.

Buy time by telling your assailant that your friends are coming or that you have STD’s or AIDS. Time is on your side during these situations the more you delay the better your possibility of getting away or being discovered. Don’t show any fear, stay calm as long as you can.

Lastly, get angry. Nobody has the right to hurt you and you should do everything you can to make sure nobody does so you have to fight back. Hit vulnerable spots by gouging the eyes, hit and kick where it’ll do the most damage like the knees or groin. Punch the neck and use whatever you have available as a weapon. In addition become used to being mindful of your environment. Be leery of strangers asking directions, of sudden crowds around you, of a stranger approaching your car. Most of all trust your instincts-if your gut tells you something is wrong don’t be scared to react.

Remember it’s your life on the line; try to stay calm, think, plan, be prepared and practice.

Think it’s all a fraudulent ploy for money? Think again. Criminal background probes can be utilized by firms and people for a number of purposes. Although it’s not a surefire method of being sure that you and your loved ones are safe, it is at least step in the right direction.

Here are some examples of when programs on criminal search and people search can come in handy: Daycare or after-school programs will probably run criminal background investigations to be certain that employees have no history of kid molestation. By the same rule, nursing houses and retirement centers may run a criminal background probe to get rid of employees and volunteers who have known violent dispositions. Also, Drug stores, pharmacies and doctor’s offices may use criminal background investigations to look for substance abuse, since employees will probably have access to drugs in-house.

Here are some other good reasons to run criminal search or people search programs. A company may decide to run a criminal background investigation on each candidate before offering a position in the company to be sure that the person was being truthful with their application. An organization that makes planes, for instance, will generally need to be certain that workers aren’t related to any terrorist groups and they haven’t been connected in any terrorist activities. A meat-packing plant may run a background investigation to be certain that potential workers are not animal rights activists looking to form issues for the company. Neighborhood associations might also run criminal background investigations on those living in their community. While some say it’s an invasion of privacy, finding out a new neighbor has been arrested for attack or that he or she has been involved in an abuse case permits the locals to be on their guard. It isn’t feasible to always make preparations for each possible situation, but information like this is often what is required to keep families safer. So how does one run a criminal background check? You will find masses of online sites prepared to supply the service. Take a little time to judge the company offering the info prior to signing up as these checks are not free and you should be sure of what you are going to get.

You must also remember that there are some free online sources such as your State Department of corrections which could have the data if you need if you’d like to know if somebody has been in jail. Persons with history as sexual predators will be registered with your local police office. Always remember, if you’re worried, be sure to ask.
